10:53 am - Monday, Jul. 07, 2003 I've really begun to realize how detrimental it is to have a nanny, and not be raised by your family (grandparents, parents). This is another reason why I want to live in BC when I grow up. If I work - my kids can go over to my dad's or my mom's house after school :) But after school isn't the big deal...it's when kids like the ones I work for don't even know their parents because they are stuck with nanny after nanny after nanny. And it's part of what makes my job so difficult. Because I'm trying to get these kids to care, to learn, to pick up after themselves, to grow, to brush their teeth - and to them, I'm just another nanny. Why should they listen to me? I'll probably just be gone like all of the other ones. I just can't wait for this summer to be over. I talked to Marcus last night, and it was one of those talks that was really surface, lot's of "whatcha up to?'s and "so....."'s. Maybe we were both tired. Maybe it's been too long. I'm definitly starting to count down now - 11 full days left, and on the 12th day I get to go home. We have so much stuff planned for our trip: -Canoeing up the Salmon Arm -Swimming at White Pine Beach -Hiking in Belcarra -Camping in Whistler -Visiting UBC (and Wreck Beach!!! The only nude beach in Vancouver...hahaha...) - Going to Victoria, seeing the Buskars and eating at the Empress hotel. Visiting my Grandparents, catching starfish on the beach. - Eating at the Salmon house, visiting the BC rainforest, Biking the 10km Stanley Park Seawall -Going to the Vancouver Art Gallery -doing the Grouse Grind -Seeing the outdoor shows at the Vancouver International Comedy Festival. -PLaying in the splash park in Granville Island -Going to Improv with my dad - taking my sisters to the Aquarium -Eating dinner at the Tea House in Stanley Park - voted the best resteraunt in the city! Phew. I can't wait. And we're going to make so many memories together. For now though - 1/2 of one working day down. 9 and 1/2 to go.
