6:38 am - Tuesday, Jul. 22, 2003 My flight landed earlier than Marcus's. I took the airport shuttle to the hotel that we were staying at (the Best Western Richmond Hotel / Convention Centre... nice place too). I showered and got changed, put marcus's lobster pillow on the bed, lay out my new lingere from La Senza, sprinkled rose petals everywhere that I brought from the flowers he bought me for my birthday, and then I hopped back on the airport shuttle at about 11:30 to go to the airport and meet him at his gate.... was he ever suprised to see me! (He thought that I was going to meet him at his hotel). We had a wonderful wonderful night! The next morning, we were standing on the deck of our room looking out over Vancouver, and just marvelling at how amazing it was to be here. Saturday: Saturday we were both jet-lagged, so we took it pretty easy. Mom and Michael came and got us from the hotel, and we stopped at Quizno's on the way home for lunch. Marcus and I hung around the house for a while, and then went to the mall b/c I had to renew my licence before I could drive. I used some of my birthday money and bought a Roots sling bag to use next year, and we both bought cd's. We went home, sat on the porch, drank wine (and coke :)) and grilled up a huge salmon for dinner. After dinner we all sat around talking and laughing until it was time for bed... it was really wonderful good family togetherness! Sunday: Sunday was our north shore day. We drove through Stanley park and over the Lion's Gate Bridge to West Vancouver...West Van is extraordinary. It has the highest income per capita of any town/city/village/whatever in Canada. The richest fucking people in Canada! So we did a little bit of househunting. We drove all the way along the ocean to Lighthouse park, which is a preserved temperate rainforest, and we hiked down to the ocean. It was SO beautiful. Across the bay, we could see UBC and stanley park...all of the boats were out, and we had our own private little lookout on the rocks, where noone could see us. We also saw a snake!!! But I wasn't too scared. He just slithered into the bushes when we walked by. After Lighthouse Park (what a hike!) we drove all through West Van, looking at the estates and pretending that we were very rich. From there, we drove across the north shore to Deep Cove (where we both want to live when we grow up!) And walked down to the pier and along the ocean. We got lunch in downtown Deep Cove (about 2 blocks of little shops that are ocean side) and then drove home.... My mom and Michael took us to Carumba for dinner... it's this restaraunt that they have in Whistler, Banff, Paris and Port Moody of all places... probably the best meal any of us have ever eaten at a restaurant. The food was Amazing! I had baked penne...marcus had a tiger prawn pasta. The Caesar was to die for. And we all sat on the patio (mom, mike, regan, marcus, me and felitia) and we acted so silly... folding up our napkins into hats, and swans and fortune tellers...taking wacky pictures (my mom took one of her cleavage) and basically closing the place down! It was such a beautiful night, and I felt happy being with everyone who I considered family... started to make me wonder what I'm doing working in Kingston in the first place. OK...then, Monday. Yesterday. We woke up late, and went to Costco... my mom bought me a Guess? watch for my birthday, and we looked at computers, printers, dvd players etc, pretending that we were rich. Then Marcus and I picked up all of the food that we'll need for camping, dropped it off at home and went downtown. We shopped for a bit on commercial drive, drove through all of the university of BC campus...it was SO GORGEOUS! and went to my dad's house. Dad cooked up a great meal for all of us. Chicken..salad...corn on the cob. I got to see my sisters, who are wonderful as usual, and Heather had one of her best friends from Mexico out with her daughter, and they were both the nicest people. After dinner we opened presents..well, ok, I opened presents! I got a really nice grapefruit sugar scrub, and two outfits... one is a navy blue navy blue velour hoodie, with a little navy blue velour skirt from a store on granville that I just LOVE. And the other is a baby pink hoodie with a pair of baby pink sweatpants! Too cute. After dinner we drive over to Kit's beach and went to the Urban Well...a cool restaurant that has improv on Monday nights. The show was fantastic...I laughed so hard. And then Marcus and I drove home around midnight, and here I am....awake at 6:30 in the morning, trying to fall back asleep but having too much on my mind! We're going camping today...driving up to whistler for the afternoon, and then on to Nairn Falls to camp for the night. It should be pretty amazing. Marcus is so excited because he has NEVER been in the mountains before...not anywhere, not ever. He's been to like, Tremblant, and the appalacians in Tennessee, but they are so old that they're worn down and more like hills. He can't wait, And neither can I. I'll write more later, but I think I'm going to go back to bed and try to get a bit more sleep before the long drive...
